Biosafety policy
The gate is the feature. Design tools that hand out recipes get a bad name — so every genome is evaluated against a published rule set before it can be released, and every verdict is auditable.

Photosynthetic organisms release O₂ as a metabolic byproduct — a planetary-scale terraforming side effect that must be logged, not blocked.
remediation: Log the release in the biosafety ledger; O₂ flux is shown on the mission page.
the policy
| rule | severity | title | rationale |
|---|---|---|---|
| BS-01 | block | Toxin + transmission chassis | Combining a toxin cassette with an adhesion/biofilm operon produces an aerosol-competent toxic organism. This combination is never constructible. |
| BS-02 | review | Antibiotic resistance outside lab chassis | Resistance markers are standard lab practice but must not leave containment. Review required unless the chassis is explicitly a lab strain. |
| BS-03 | review | Nitrogen fixation + sporulation | A dormant, self-feeding organism can seed itself across sterile environments. Ecological review required before release. |
| BS-04 | review | Unregulated high-impact stress stack | Stacking DNA-repair and radiation-suppression genes past policy thresholds creates an organism calibrated for post-nuclear niches. |
| BS-05 | review | Photosynthesis disclosure | Photosynthetic organisms release O₂ as a metabolic byproduct — a planetary-scale terraforming side effect that must be logged, not blocked. |
| BS-06 | review | Regulated part without promoter | A regulated part (toxin, resistance, adhesion) with no promoter cannot express — but its presence in the sequence table still requires register entry. |
